The Curry House
29 Mardol, Shrewsbury SY1 1PU, United Kingdom
For anyone in Shrewsbury looking for authentic Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine, The Curry House is a trusted name that delivers quality, flavor, and friendly service. Located at 29 Mardol, Shrewsbury SY1 1PU, this well-established restaurant has been serving locals and visitors for years, offering an inviting atmosphere and a menu that balances traditional dishes with innovative chef’s specials.
The menu at The Curry House is extensive and thoughtfully designed to suit a wide range of tastes. On my visit, the chicken tikka masala was a standout—creamy, rich, and layered with aromatic spices. The lamb bhuna was equally impressive, with tender meat in a sauce that had real depth and character. Starters such as onion bhajis and chicken pakoras were crisp, fresh, and served with chutneys that added an extra burst of flavor. For vegetarian diners, options such as vegetable jalfrezi and saag paneer are excellent, showing the same level of care and attention to flavor as the meat-based dishes.
What sets The Curry House apart is its consistency. Each dish feels freshly prepared, with spices carefully balanced to avoid overwhelming the palate. The naan breads—particularly the garlic naan—were soft, fluffy, and perfect for scooping up the rich curries. The pilau rice was fragrant and light, completing the meal beautifully.
The drinks menu complements the food well, with a range of beers, wines, and soft drinks. On staff recommendation, I paired my meal with a crisp lager, which matched perfectly with the bold flavors of the bhuna.
Service at The Curry House is another strong point. The staff are friendly, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about the menu. They are happy to make recommendations based on spice preference and dietary requirements, and their warm approach ensures a relaxed and enjoyable experience. On my visit, dishes arrived promptly, even during a busy evening, which demonstrated the efficiency of the team.
The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable, with a blend of traditional décor and modern touches. Whether you’re visiting for a family meal, a night out with friends, or a romantic dinner, the restaurant caters to all occasions with ease.
In terms of value, The Curry House offers generous portions at very fair prices. Considering the quality of the food and the excellent service, it represents great value compared to many chain restaurants.
Overall, The Curry House in Shrewsbury is a must-visit for anyone who enjoys authentic Indian cuisine. With its delicious food, attentive service, and inviting atmosphere, it continues to be one of the town’s standout dining destinations.

“Recently visited the Curry House Shrewsbury for their Gourmet menu & it was exceptional! Their food is always great but the gourmet menu is definitely a favourite for a special occasion. The bombay bindi aloo & Seabass palak were the best I have ever had. They never fail to amaze, from the service to the quality of food served. Couldn't recommend them enough.”
“I recently had the pleasure of dining at THE CURRY HOUSE , and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by friendly staff and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The decor was modern yet comfortable, creating the perfect setting for a delightful meal. The star of the show, however, was the curry. Each dish was a masterpiece of flavor, perfectly balanced and expertly spiced. The menu offered a variety of curry options, from traditional classics to innovative new creations. I opted for the Lamb Shank, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. The meat was tender, and the sauce was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of heat. What impressed me most was the attention to detail in every aspect of the dining experience. The service was prompt and attentive, ensuring that my water glass was never empty and my needs were always met. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and happy to offer recommendations. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable for the quality of the food. I left feeling satisfied and eager to return to try more of the menu. In summary, THE CURRY HOUSE is a must-visit for curry lovers. Whether you're a fan of traditional dishes or looking to explore new flavors, this restaurant offers something for everyone. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!”
“This place was recommended. It is mid week and when I arrive there were two couples already seated and enjoying their food. The staff are very accommodating and happy to explain any of the dishes. The food portions were suitable, after all, by the time you have had poppadoms, a starter, main plus nans etc. You get rather full and then there is drinks on top of that. One of my bugbears is the temperature of food and I'm happy to say that it passed. The quality of the tikka chicken starter was very good, not dry, but tender and moist enough to make me take notice. I'm happy to recommend this place. But it will be a while before I return as I live in Scotland and here on holiday.”
“Excellent curry restaurant in a very quaint old timbered location on Mardol. Extensive menu of careful prepared authentic and stylishly presented dishes. Not the place for a quick ruby after 10 pints, a bit more classy. Can’t just wander in either, you really need to book.”
“Came to the Curry House Shrewsbury on their exclusive ‘Gourmet nights’ they have on during the week for my wife’s birthday. The dishes were presented beautifully and the taste was something you’d find in a Michelin starred restaurant. Each ingredient complements each other well and highlights the chefs creativity. I personally went for the Amrisari chicken and then a lamb shank for the main. Both dishes were bursting with flavour, and the lamb in particular was falling off the bone. Credit to the CH team and I will certainly be back to try the rest of the menu!”
